GENESEE COUNTY, MI - The city of Fenton and Genesee County Parks and Recreation have each received a $1 million grant from the state to support communities and encourage population growth. The funds are coming through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Revitalization and Placemaking program. Michael Hart, director of the City of Fenton Downtown Development Authority, said the grant will accelerate ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade city facilities.

Journalists at MLive took home 55 awards at the 2025 Michigan Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. The awards were given out Thursday, May 8, in Frankenmuth, and highlight writing, photography, digital design and advertising from media outlets across the state. Notably, The Flint Journal won Newspaper of the Year for Class D as well as Most Innovative Storytelling and the Public Service Award for its package of stories on the 10-year anniversary of the Flint water crisis.
