    No health board in Wales has met its cancer waiting time targets in more than four years, a report has found. The public sector watchdog for Wales said there has been a "continuing failure to meet national performance targets for cancer" and "stronger, clearer national leadership is urgently needed to improve services". The watchdog also called for greater clarity over the roles of the Welsh Government and the NHS Executive in overseeing and supporting improvement.

    The Met Office has issued a dire forecast for the UK, predicting a sharp drop in temperatures with the mercury potentially plummeting to minus 20C in the north on Friday night. Ice warnings have been put in place across most of Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as vast regions of eastern England, lasting until 10am Friday. Wednesday saw temperatures dive to minus 12.4C in Inverness-shire, with Scotland's lower valleys expected to see between minus 12C and minus 16C on Thursday night.

    A major update into the cause of a huge sinkhole in Merthyr Tydfil has been given with the council stating it is believed it developed over six days after flooding caused by Storm Bert. The leader of Merthyr Council has issued an update on the 50ft sinkhole which opened up on a road in a cul-de-sac in Nant Morlais, Pant. A total of 29 homes were evacuated on Sunday after the hole in the ground, which first appeared on Saturday, continued to grow.

A cross-party motion submitted by Labour’s Julie Morgan (pictured) calling for those who are “intolerably suffering” and have a clear wish to die to be able to be assisted by medical professionals was rejected on Wednesday evening. The Senedd cannot change the law itself, with ultimate power resting at Westminster.
