A Nanaimo woman is talking about how she was defrauded, and then when she reported it to her credit card company, they didn’t believe her. It was a dramatic scene in Nanaimo’s popular Pipers Lagoon Park on Sunday afternoon. Just before 4 p.m., a witness to the fall called 911. Police, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and paramedics with BC Ambulance responded. Firefighters arrived, and people directed them to the woman on the northeast corner of the beach. Firefighters carried her close to 200 metres on a spinal board before she was transferred into a waiting BC Ambulance that transported her to a hospital.

Nanaimo city staff has asked council for direction on whether to repaint or potentially decal its famous Nanaimo sign, with special consideration of the letter “O.”Vandals painted the “O” to look like the other letters last month, and while the city had moderate success removing the paint, it says it’s due to be repainted. The sign, made up of the three-dimensional letters of Nanaimo, has been at Maffeo Sutton Park for four years and is likely the most photographed location in the city.
