    STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Our Grace Brister spoke to a public relations class at Mississippi State University about the relationship between PR professionals and news media professionals. Students got to hear how the two fields work together to get stories, information, and community events out to the public. Students said they learned a lot from the discussion and have a better understanding of what news professionals look for when they receive story pitches.

    STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Starkville Police Department caught an escapee on the run, and the run for freedom was short-lived. According to the Starkville Police Department, a three-day goat hunt has ended with the arrest of “Lightning Billy”. This morning, on April 15, SPD officers, along with an animal control officer, were able to stalk Lightning Billy back to his hideout, where a brief standoff took place, ending in Billy’s capture.

    LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Recently, the Exchange Club of Columbus hosted this year’s “Accepting the Challenge of Excellence Award.”The A.C.E. Award is set aside for a student that has excelled through hardship in their life. Ryoma Kurosawa, an A.C.E. award nominee, is a soon-to-be graduate of Caledonia High School. He is excited for the next phase of life, but getting to this point wasn’t always easy. Kurosawa’s family moved from Japan to Caledonia when he was 15 years old.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – At the last council meeting, the city of Columbus tabled a motion that came forward from Neel-Schaffer. The city recently hired them to acquire the easements the city needed for the properties in the watershed and flooding areas that will be paid for by ARPA funds.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Catfish in the Alley kicked off this afternoon with live music and food right outside of the Tennessee Williams Welcome Center. The Blues with a Side of Soul event featured music from Keith Johnson and the Big Muddy Band. Tomorrow, there will be more live music, catfish, vendors, and the Stella Shouting contest. Sharon Johnson, the business director with the Columbus Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau, said she hopes visitors enjoy what Columbus has to offer.
