ONTARIO — The development of Ontario’s Community Improvement Corporation advanced Wednesday night as City Council members voted to appoint four citizens to the CIC’s executive board. Members of council’s economic development committee tapped Beth DeLaney, Brett Baxter, Amy Hiner and Joel Fox to serve on the CIC’s executive committee. Ontario officials are in the midst of establishing a Community Improvement Corporation, as part of the city’s comprehensive plan.

ONTARIO — If Dylan Bailey had only taken a bathroom break on Feb. 11, 2024, this past year would have gone quite differently. Bailey, a 2013 Shelby High School graduate and Ontario police officer, was shot twice in his left leg and a third bullet grazed his right elbow while responding to a domestic violence call that Super Bowl Sunday. “Super Bowl Sunday can go one of two ways — we’re either super slow or super busy,” Bailey said.

MANSFIELD — Blu Angel has grown up in a house with a mother who deals drugs. The teenager feels her mom cares more about money than her own children. The fictional story takes place in Chicago, but the movie was filmed, produced and premiered in Mansfield. Mansfield native Brandi Johnson authored the novel “Powder Blu” in 2014, published by Urban Books. She has written six books and one short story. This was the first of her works to be adapted into a film.

MANSFIELD — A new Tractor Supply Company and Five Below store is expected to open off the I-71/ Ohio 13 intersection in January 2026, according to a Tractor Supply Company spokesperson. The vacant land, currently owned by Possum Run Properties LLC (according to the Richland County Auditor’s Office), encompasses about 3.5 acres. Tractor Supply Company operates locations in Ashland, Ontario, and Mount Vernon among its more than 100 stores in Ohio.

MANSFIELD — The Ohio Express, a pop band known for hits such as “Yummy, Yummy, Yummy” and “Chewy, Chewy,” has released a new cover of “Love Potion No. 9” on Cleopatra Records. The new track, produced by founding member Tim Corwin, is the band’s sixth release with Cleopatra Records, based in West Hollywood, California. Corwin, 76, also performs lead vocals on the single. “We’re loving the millions of listeners on Spotify,” Corwin said.
