The Ohio Power Siting Board unanimously denied Stark Solar a certificate to construct, operate and maintain a solar farm in Washington Township. The decision can still be appealed. Chris Simmons, Stark Solar project manager, said the company is uncertain of next steps at this time. An opinion and order filed to the case record following the Siting Board meeting explained that the project was denied because of local opposition.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office will get the biggest share of the capital projects budget, as it has the largest staff of the county and also gets the majority of the operating budget. A large project at the information technology department aims to modernize disaster recovery so county operations can be restored quickly in case of a disaster. CANTON − Stark County is planning for a year of maintenance and upgrades to facilities and equipment.

PIKE TWP. − Pike Ridge Park is the new destination for hiking and equestrian in Stark County. The newest Stark Park had its grand opening Friday. A crowd of hikers, horseback riders and nature lovers gathered to mark the occasion. The 520-acre park at 7498 East Sparta Avenue SE in Pike Township was once home to Canton's water treatment plant. Hikers take in an inaugural hike after the opening of Pike Ridge Park in Pike Township.

CANTON ‒ Stark County Children Services is asking voters to approve a replacement levy in the May 6 primary election to cover heightened child placement costs. The 1.4-mill levy would replace the previous levy for Children Services that was passed in 2019 and expires this year. Stark County officials said the levy is necessary to fund child placements of abused, neglected and delinquent children in the county.
