Cork City return to Turner’s Cross this Friday night for a pivotal Premier Division encounter against Shelbourne, with the Rebel Army desperately seeking a result to keep their survival hopes alive ahead of the mid-season break. Reflecting on last week’s 2-1 defeat to Galway United, it’s difficult to draw definitive conclusions, given that new manager Ger Nash had only a few days to work with the squad. Nonetheless, there were glimpses of his intent to make City more resilient and harder to beat.

New Cork City boss Ger Nash didn’t hide his frustration after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Galway United on Friday night, describing the result as a bitter pill to swallow — particularly for the fans who have become all too familiar with late heartbreak this season. "It was incredibly tough to take. It was even tougher for our fans because they have seen it before.

Ger Nash’s first game in the Cork City dugout ended in defeat as his side were edged out by Galway United in a lively second half at Eamonn Deacy Park. After a forgettable opening 45 minutes, the game burst into life after the restart with three goals, a penalty, and a much-improved tempo — but ultimately, City came up just short in a contest they’ll feel they could have taken something from.

New Cork City manager Ger Nash couldn’t have asked for a more high-stakes fixture to kick off his tenure than a trip to face Galway United — the very team City are desperately chasing in the Premier Division table. With an eight-point gap between the sides heading into the game, the margin for error is vanishingly slim. If City are to harbour realistic hopes of pulling Galway into a relegation scrap, this is a must-win clash. That pressure makes this something of a baptism of fire for Nash.

Cork City were dealt a crushing blow at Richmond Park as St Patrick’s Athletic snatched a dramatic winner in the fifth minute of injury time. New City boss Ger Nash, watching from the stands before officially taking charge, would have been heartened by his side’s spirited second-half display — but ultimately left frustrated as Jamie Lennon struck late to deny City the share of the spoils.

Obviously not good for Cork City but Warren Davis is a wonderful talent. Drogheda will do well to keep hold of him this summer.

I’ve seen some bad decisions in my life but John Mahon’s saving the ball and getting away with it has to be up there.

Great to be back watching PD games. Shipston and Couto’s delivery from set-pieces and open play is incredible. Bolger immense. Keating and Maguire doing what strikers are suppose to do.
