Just over three years since the tragic mass shooting that took place May 14, 2022, at a Tops in East Buffalo, attorneys appeared in court Wednesday to discuss proceedings in the case of Payton Gendron, the suspect of the mass shooting that claimed 10 lives. While Gendron himself did not appear in court Wednesday, his defense team was down one key attorney.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this flu season saw over 27,000 deaths and more than 200 child deaths across the U.S. It's the worst flu season the country has seen in 15 years. “It is estimated that we've had 47 million cases of influenza, over 600,000 hospitalizations, and 27,000 deaths,” said Thomas Russo, professor and chief of infectious disease for the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine.

The deadline has come and gone for striking correction officers in New York to return to work. Any correction officers still striking are expected to face disciplinary action beginning on Sunday, according to a statement from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). Saturday was the deadline for all correction officers participating in the unsanctioned strike to return to work, as per mediation talks.

COLLINS, N.Y. — Formal mediation is underway Monday between state corrections leaders and union officials as correction officers continue striking for a second week across New York's prison facilities. Workers from 38 out of 42 facilities are now on the picket line. Correction officers are asking for better working conditions, higher pay and limits on shifts.
