An American Werewolf in LondonSuggested by JJ Christensen, Opinion EditorMy favorite movie for Halloween is An American Werewolf in London, a 1981 comedy/horror by John Landis. The movie focuses on an American college student named David who gets attacked by a werewolf while with his friend. The friend dies, and David survives—the werewolf is shot. Unfortunately, however, the curse of the werewolf passes on to David.

Students and campus community members may have noticed a big change in the Park Blocks. The fence around the library—erected after its occupation last spring—has come down. In March, individuals protesting the war in Gaza entered and occupied the library before being forced out by Portland police. There was damage throughout the building, including broken equipment, shattered windows, spray paint on walls and books, and additional damage to the fire safety system.

As we see an increase in political activism—especially with younger people taking to the street and demanding not to be ignored—the people who want to ignore them will be angry. We see that across the internet with comments like, “This isn’t how you get support,” and, “What happened to peaceful protests?” There are usually a variety of different messages trying to tear down a movement, because they honestly don’t care and don’t want to see it. Criticisms of these movements are not new.

When someone says Halloween-themed animals, most people will think of the classics—cats, bats and rats. Also spiders, but that doesn’t rhyme. These animals are tied to the scary spaces, characters and settings and are often featured in set design for anyone fixing together a spooky haunted house, but what are some unique animals which might appropriately fit Halloween’s weird and creepy vibes?

There are too many cars at Portland State. If you’ve ever been to PSU’s campus, chances are you’ve noticed the parking situation. Commuters coming to PSU by car have a few choices. They can park in one of the large campus parking structures or park on the street—that’s if there’s parking available at all. That gets to the heart of the problem—students shouldn’t be driving cars to campus. That’s not to blame the students, of course.
