Fix it 23, based at the Mountsorrel Memorial Centre, has fixed more than 600 items in its first 12 months as the group aims to "reduce waste, share knowledge and skills whilst bringing the community together".

Claire Lomas, 44, raised nearly £1m for charity after she was paralysed in a horse riding accident in 2007, including completing the 2012 London Marathon in a bionic suit. Her family previously said they had been left "absolutely devastated" by her death.

Sinead O'Malley-Kumar raised funds for the foundation in her daughter's name, launched after she, fellow student Barnaby Webber and school caretaker Ian Coates were fatally stabbed by Valdo Calocane in June 2023.

    A triathlete was left "devastated" after pulling out of a race on the anniversary of his dad's death. Louis Dunne, 21, was competing in the Outlaw Triathlon at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire, on Sunday. However, he suffered a flare up of a knee injury which forced him to pull out during the running leg of the race. Mr Dunne had hoped to win a professional contract during the race, but the swim was cancelled on Friday due to an algal bloom.

    Families who were forced to move out of their severely flooded homes during Storm Henk are yet to return, four months on. People across Leicestershire are still suffering the effects of the storm, which brought widespread flooding to the county in January. Shobhna Kara, 73, is still sofa surfing after her Leicester home was flooded by one metre (3.2ft) of water. Her son, Simel, said the flooding was an "apocalyptic scenario".
