Washington — The life and times of the oldest detachable high-speed chairlift in Washington are coming to a close. Yesterday, Crystal Mountain announced that it will be replacing the Rainier Express (known by Crystal skiers as REX) chairlift. Opened back in 1988, it’s the first high-speed quad chairlift installed in Washington. REX will be replaced by a new Leitner-Poma detachable high-speed quad chairlift. The Rainier Express services intermediate and advanced terrain.

Oregon — If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about Oregon’s ski history, a new book covers the histories of various abandoned ski areas in the state. For years, Oregon ski historian Steve Stenkamp has been documenting the history of the state’s ski industry. The “Lost Oregon Ski Areas” Facebook page covers various historical tidbits about these shuttered mountains. After all these years of research, he decided to write a book about his findings.

New Hampshire — After over 35 years of service, the oldest high-speed chairlift in New Hampshire is being replaced by a modern lift. Yesterday, Bretton Woods announced that the Bethlehem Express Quad (referred to as BEQ) will be replaced this offseason. The new chairlift will be a Leitner Poma detachable high-speed quad that can carry 1800 people per hour, but it will be a shorter ride.

Nederland, Colorado — While Mt. Bachelor was recently put off the market, POWDR still remains interested in selling two of its ski resorts: Eldora and SilverStar. However, it appears that they are wary of a local Colorado town buying Eldora. Jason Blevins of the Colorado Sun reports that the town of Nederland remains interested in acquiring Eldora Mountain Resort.
