MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The march that turned into a protest started and ended at the National Civil Rights Museum. Activists said they have tried to be nice and work with city leaders since 2023, after the beating death of Tyre Nichols. Now they are pushing more for justice. Protestors marched through downtown Memphis, chanting the same message as it was in 2023, “Justice for Tyre”.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A new development on the xAI project in Southwest Memphis came in Tuesday night. The Greater Memphis Chamber announced that the company plans to stop using some of the turbines in place to power the project, as it is now operating on power provided by Memphis Light, Gas, and Water and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Action News 5 spoke with KeShaun Pearson, president of Memphis Community Against Pollution.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Two ordinances led to heated discussions between Shelby County Commissioners at Monday night’s meeting. The discussion prompted both of Shelby County Commissioner Edmund Ford Jr.’s parents to speak in support of him. Shelby County Commissioner Michael Whaley introduced two ordinances after Edmund Ford, Jr. was federally indicted on several charges, including bribery and evading taxes. Ford, Jr. entered a not guilty plea on those charges. Monday, one of those ordinances passed.

(WMC) - Memphis rap is a sub-genre of hip hop specific to the Bluff City. “It definitely is the rhythm of the beat and it’s the 808s,” said rapper Al Kapone as he described what Memphis rap sounds like. It’s a sound very unique to the Bluff City. DJ Zirk said he started his career rapping and then moved to producing music early in his career. “We are monotonic. You know what I’m saying? We [have] base and we are club,” he said.
