Portland State University’s community has been pushing for widespread reforms. This struggle kicked into high gear at the outset of the latest bout of Israeli aggression towards Palestine, specifically the most recent invasion of the Gaza Strip. Students took particular issue with the relationship between PSU and Boeing, a company supplying bombs and weapons to Israel. One of the most notable demands by student activists is that PSU ultimately divest from companies with ties to the State of Israel.

Due to new regulations, food carts near The Branford P. Millar Library and Montgomery Residence Hall must connect to the county sewer system by year-end or leave. The campus administrators indicated they would not pay for this upgrade, and the food cart owners couldn’t afford it themselves, forcing them to vacate the space. Portland State students have expressed concern about the food desertification of the west side of campus, which this closure would contribute to.

A new art and literary magazine is currently underway in Portland called Invisible Force. Its “biggest goal is [for] people that are disabled to be able to tell their story,” said Anna Culver—Portland Community College student, musician, artist and the magazine’s art director. Invisible Force originated as a student collaboration at PCC’s Accessible Ed & Disability Resources center.

What the hell is spooky season? In recent years, Halloween has seemed to break out of its late October shell and gradually come to cast its shadow over the entirety of the fall season, dubbed spooky season. This year, Halloween megastore Spirit Halloween opened its doors on July 29, a full three months before Halloween.

It’s time for University Housing and Residence Life (UHRL) to change their outdated air conditioning policy. As students living in campus housing probably already know, the 2022–2023 UHRL Housing Handbook prohibits the use of air conditioners anywhere within residence halls. The housing policy only includes two short sentences about air conditioning.
