Three years after Oxnard rolled out a new rent-control program, city leaders have decided the rules need a remodel. The Oxnard City Council approved a slate of protections against tenant harassment during its April 29 meeting and made small patches to the city's 2022 rent stabilization and just cause eviction ordinances. The council also backed city staff's request to use $500,000 to hire a partially dedicated city attorney and an investigator to help enforce the new anti-harassment rules.

Two more Ventura County sites were added to the National Register of Historic Places last year. The Scarlett-McGrath Ranch near Oxnard was added to the list in October. The Bell Canyon Equestrian Center on the county's eastern edge officially earned the honor in July. The two new sites bring the total number of nationally listed historic places in Ventura County above 40.
