Roscommon school win second All Ireland title in four days

A Roscommon school are celebrating once more after they claimed a second All Ireland basketball title in four days. Abbey Community College Boyle claimed the Junior 'C' Girls All-Ireland Schools League title on Friday. The Boyle based secondary school defeated Loreto, Milford 34-28 to cap a memorable week. On Tuesday, Abbey Community School Boyle were crowned All Ireland Minor C champions after they came through a thrilling decider against Glenties of Donegal, to prevail 29-20. 
King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park set to host All Ireland semi final

King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park has been chosen to host an All Ireland U-20B semi final. The meeting of Leitrim and Westmeath in the Dalata Hotel U-20B semi final will be held in King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park. The sides will meet on Wednesday, May 14th with the game throwing in at 6.30 p.m.Leitrim progressed through to the All Ireland U-20B semi final after they defeated Galway in Kiltoom to win the Philly McGuinness Cup.

Roscommon have learned their opponents for the group stage of the Sam Maguire Cup. Davy Burke’s men will come up against the winners of the Munster final (Kerry or Clare), the runners up of the Leinster Championship (the loser of Meath v Louth) and Cork. Roscommon will be away for their clash with Kerry or Clare on the weekend of May 17/18 before they host the loser of the Leinster final in King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park.

A Roscommon school have secured All Ireland basketball glory. Abbey Community School Boyle were crowned All Ireland Minor C champions after they came through a thrilling decider against Glenties of Donegal. The game opened with Domantas Bernatavicius, on the first play, hitting a long-range three-pointer to set the tempo for the Boyle lads, which they never relented for the rest of the quarter.
Castlerea boy chosen to be a mascot for Liverpool FC

A young Castlerea boy’s dream has come true after he was chosen as a mascot for a Liverpool FC game. Harry Fleming, aged 10 and from Castlerea, has been selected as a mascot for the Liverpool team for their premier league game against Brighton and Hove Albion next month. Harry will receive a complimentary Liverpool kit to wear for next month’s game while his family will head to the Amex Stadium on May 19th to watch Harry walk out on to the pitch with his heroes.
Strong local interest after shortlist for Connacht Rugby awards revealed

There is a strong local presence among the nominees for the 2025 Connacht Rugby awards. Creggs have been nominated for Club of the Year after an historic season. There is strong Creggs interest in the Men’s Junior Club Player of the Year with Creggs duo Brian Diffley and Shane Purcell both shortlisted for the award. Meanwhile, Marist College Athlone are shortlisted for the School of the Year. The U-18 Men’s Player of the Year award sees strong local representation among the three nominees.
Roscommon golfer impresses at US tournament

Roscommon’s Cian O’Connor produced a terrific final round while competing with the University of Memphis at the American Athletic Conference Championship. O’Connor finished in a tie for 15th overall as he helped his college to a fourth placed team finish. He shot a final round of 67, a career best, to finish the tournament on six under par. O’Connor was named on the AAC All Academic Team in the 2022/23 season.

Two Roscommon supporters were interviewed on Sky Sports following Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League. Shane Sharkey and Brian Carroll both travelled over to watch their beloved club book their return to the top table after an emphatic 6-0 win over Stoke City on Easter Monday. Carroll, who is Chairperson of Roscommon GAA, is a lifelong Leeds United supporter as himself and Sharkey were able to celebrate Leeds’ return to the top table.
