Students from Mobile County once again managed to bring home top honors at the 2025 National Archery in the Schools Program’s (NASP) Alabama State Championship in Montgomery. During the event, nearly 2,000 archers from 105 schools competed for the opportunity to advance to the NASP’s Eastern National Championship on May 8-10 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship has taken place in Gulf Shores since 2016. Despite its successful run, it was decided to split the bid between the Alabama hosts and a new group in Huntington Beach, Calif., for the next two years. However, the event was changed in January to hold the relocation for another season as a result of the wildfires that have ravaged southern California.

The Many More Miles campaign is a community outreach initiative that collects gently used footwear to support local individuals and families in need. Organizers say approximately 32,650 pairs of shoes have been donated during the initial two decades. Baldwin Bone & Joint PC, City Hope Church and Baldwin County schools partnered to collect the shoes. The campaign, now in its 21st year, recently wrapped up with the shoe distribution to various local organizations.

From 2012 to 2015, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) hosted the National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores. The following year, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hosted its inaugural tournament adjacent to Baldwin County’s Gulf waters. To help fill the gap for teams outside the NCAA’s Division I field, the AVCA introduced its Small College Beach Volleyball Championships in Tavares, Fla., starting in 2018.
