WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – While Walton County commissioners wait on Governor DeSantis to sign a recently passed customary use bill into law, they’re debating how to handle the potential legal effects. The bill, sponsored by State Senator Jay Trumbull, repeals a 2018 law allowing private beaches in Walton County. However, the bill doesn’t ban private beaches outright. It would not supersede any legal judgments or negotiated settlements the county made with landowners from 2018 to 2024.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – At Thursday’s monthly board meeting, Panama City Port Authority revealed they’re currently enjoying a 10 percent increase in year-over-year tonnage. Last month, the port landed 75,000 tons of copper. In 2025, they’ve landed 100,000 tons of cement, with more expected next month. “We’re seeing that with import metals and also with some new import commodities moving into our east terminal,” Executive Director Alex King said.

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Brian Kellenberger has accepted the role as Walton County’s interim county administrator, following the firing of Stan Sunday. On Tuesday evening, commissioners voted 3-2 to fire Sunday for a multitude of reasons, including inconsistent hiring and firing practices and outdated ordinances. In Curry’s motion, he proposed that the Director of Beach Operations, Brian Kellenberger, replace Sunday.

SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) – Walton County officials broke ground on a new addition to Kellogg Bayside Park. The Kellogg Trail and Educational Center includes a 1800 square ft. facility and 500 linear feet of trail. The trail connects to the existing Bayside Park, which overlooks the Choctawhatchee Bay. The 10-acre property was gifted to the county over 20 years ago by Pat and Lewis Kellogg, who wanted the county to convert the property into a nature preserve for children to enjoy.

On Tuesday, June 10, commissioners voted 3-2 to fire County Adminsitrator Stan Sunday for a multitude of reasons. Commissioner Dan Curry made the motion, citing inconsistent hiring and firing practices and outdated ordinances. Sunday had worked in the Walton County government most of his adult life.
