    OROVILLE — The Butte County Board of Supervisors moved forward with adopting the new Fire Hazard Severity Zone map for its local responsibility area during its meeting Tuesday, a move required by the state. Cal Fire-Butte County Chief Garrett Sjolund presented the item to the board and explained updates made to the local maps based on new, as well as mitigated, fire risks. Butte County’s map covers unincorporated areas; municipalities get maps for their jurisdictions.

    SHASTA LAKE - The Shasta County Sheriff's Office found a vehicle owned by two missing women from Chico with two bodies inside, but authorities have not confirmed that the bodies are theirs. Butte County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Megan McMann confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the vehicle was found in March but said it has yet to be released whether the bodies were that of Vivian Luna, 64 or her mother Dolores Sakamoto, 84, who were reported missing in July 2024.

    OROVILLE — Cal Fire-Butte County is proposing an ordinance for an update to Butte County’s wildfire risk map, ultimately asking the Board of Supervisors to adopt the new Local Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Severity Zone. The map update is required by California law and is based on guidance by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
