(KNSI) — A potential loss in state aid has the Minnesota State System bracing for potential tuition hikes this summer. The announcement of a possible tuition increase of 3.5% to 9% would be the largest in nearly 12 years. A February report showed Minnesota State colleges and universities had estimated an average state funding increase of 7% across the system. The governor’s recommended budget included no increases for higher education.

(KNSI) – St. Cloud is recruiting an army to help protect local waters during the Earth Day Adopt-a-Drain Competition. Between now and April 30th, communities across the county will vie to see who will take care of the most storm drains. City officials say adopting a location will reduce water pollution, one drain at a time. The city has around 8,100 storm drains, with the vast majority needing a caretaker. Everyone taking part will receive a free reusable adopt-a-drain string backpack.

Angela Haus is in the running to win $25,000, a feature in Reader’s Digest, a trip to Hawaii, and a school assembly with Bill Nye the Science Guy. She has three rounds left and needs the public’s help to advance out of the quarterfinals.

(KNSI) – A man convicted in connection to a 2023 shooting in St. Cloud that left one man dead and two others wounded has been sentenced for aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Prosecutors say on October 22nd, Deionte Jaewon Parker was at a house party on the 700 block of 6th Avenue South when a fight broke out over a stabbing that happened in July of that year. Parker fatally shot 34-year-old Antonio Carl Harris Junior, and two other men, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
