Annual Report Shows Benton County's Crime Rate Still Decreasing

FOLEY (WJON News) -- An annual report from the Benton County Sheriff shows the county's crime rate continues to come down. Sheriff Troy Heck released the report to the board of commissioners at last week's meeting. According to the report, 2024 was the seventh year in a row that the county saw a decrease in the crime rate. There were 13,724 Initial Complaint Reports last year, or calls for service. That number is more than 1,600 fewer than 2023.
Two People Sent to the Hospital After Sherburne County Crash

BIG LAKE TOWNSHIP (WJON News) -- Two people were sent to the hospital after a crash between a pickup and a tractor Wednesday morning. The incident happened on eastbound Highway 10 in Big Lake Township at around 10:00 a.m.The Minnesota State Patrol says the tractor and the Chevy Avalanche were headed east when they collided at Sherburne County Road 14.
Man Arrested for Making Threats to St. Cloud High School Students

ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- St. Cloud Cathedral High School went into a shelter-in-place for a short time Wednesday morning after a man allegedly threatened two students outside the school. St. Cloud Police responded to the 300 block of 7th Avenue North at around 7:45 a.m.The students told officers that a man had made comments about shooting them before leaving on foot. Police were able to track the man down nearby and take him into custody without incident.

Annandale Woman Hurt in Wright County Crash Tuesday

COKATO (WJON News) -- An Annandale woman was hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Wright County Tuesday morning. The incident happened on Highway 12 in Cokato at around 9:50 a.m.The Minnesota State Patrol says an SUV driven by 41-year-old Israel Salinas-Cruz was eastbound on the highway while an SUV driven by 32-year-old Kelsey Zieman was westbound. The two vehicles collided near Jackson Avenue Southwest. Zieman was taken to Buffalo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

UNDATED (WJON News) -- Minnesota's next Free Park Day is Saturday, April 26th. It's a day when the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources waives the parking permit fee across all 73 state parks and recreation areas. There is a Free Park Day for all four seasons in Minnesota to give users a chance to enjoy the park at different times of the year. A Free Park Day is scheduled each spring on the Saturday after Earth Day.

ZION TOWNSHIP (WJON News) -- Three people were taken to the hospital with injuries after a two-vehicle crash north of Paynesville Sunday evening. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says it happened in Zion Township at the intersection of County Road 16 and County Road 130 at around 5:45 p.m.The sheriff's office says a car driven by 55-year-old John Weber of Hawick was southbound on County Road 16 while an SUV driven by 67-year-old Lisa Bagley of St. Cloud was eastbound on County Road 130.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says it happened just after 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 9 and 440th Street about two miles north of Holdingford. The caller reported a single motorcycle crash with the rider lying injured in the ditch.

ELK RIVER (WJON News) -- The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash involving a wrong-way driver and a Minnesota State Trooper. Sherburne County dispatchers began receiving calls about a wrong-way driver on Highway 10 in Clear Lake Township just after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect's vehicle collided with another vehicle near 70th Street SE. A responding trooper then collided with one or both vehicles.
