ELK RIVER (WJON News) -- Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott has released a statement responding to apparent claims made by accused murderer Vance Boelter in his court appearance on Friday. According to the sheriff, Boelter made comments about deplorable jail conditions in the Sherburne County jail where he's being held that have prevented him from getting any sleep, and therefore require a continuance in his court case.
More Lane Restrictions Are Impacting Traffic on 3rd Street North

ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- More traffic changes are happening on 3rd Street North in St. Cloud and Waite Park. Westbound traffic on 3rd Street will be reduced to one lane from 33rd Avenue North to Highway 15, effective immediately. Drivers should be aware that the lane closures will shift from the inner lane to the outer lane at times. Traffic changes are also continuing along 3rd Street west of St. Cloud into Waite Park. The construction and traffic shifts will continue through early August.
Boaters Should Slow Down As Water Levels Rise In Stearns County

STEARNS COUNTY (WJON News) -- Recent heavy rains have the Stearns County Sheriff's Office issuing a No Wake restriction on some area lakes. Lake levels in the Clearwater Lake area have risen to the point where a No Wake restriction is being issued for Clearwater Lake, Grass Lake, Lake Augusta, and Lake Caroline. The restriction is for boats within 300 feet of shore.
Rollover Crash Near Albany Leaves Two Young Men Injured

ALBANY TOWNSHIP (WJON News) -- Two people were hurt in a rollover crash near Albany Thursday. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office dispatched deputies to the area of County Road 157 and 248th Avenue just after 6:30 p.m.Deputies arrived to find a Chevy Silverado pickup had left the road, entered the ditch, and rolled. The driver, 21-year-old Diego Sanchez of Long Prairie, suffered minor injuries.

St. Cloud Police were dispatched to an incident where a man said he was threatened with a box cutter. According to the charges, the man said he was driving on 25th Avenue just after 5:00 a.m. and was stopped at a red light to turn onto Highway 23. When the light turned green, he said a man on a scooter went through the red light, forcing him to brake suddenly.

Career Solutions used grants from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development to give 11 people Foundations of Welding training through their Drive for 5 grant. Fourteen more people received facilities maintenance training through the Pathways to Prosperity grant program.

LITTLE FALLS (WJON News) -- The Morrison County Sheriff's Office is getting a new piece of life-saving equipment thanks to a pilot project at the University of Minnesota Medical School. The Center for Resuscitation Medicine is donating an automated CPR device called LUCAS to the sheriff's office. The device provides continuous chest compressions to patients experiencing cardiac arrest. Manual chest compressions can be physically exhausting and have varied effectiveness.
Holdingford Man Pleads Guilty to Murder After Fatal Drug Overdose

ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- A Holdingford man charged with murder involving the fatal overdose of another man has pleaded guilty. In a court appearance Wednesday, 32-year-old Cody Johannes pleaded guilty to one count of 3rd-degree murder. According to the criminal complaint filed in Stearns County District Court, Johannes sold the victim methamphetamine and fentanyl on November 17, 2024. The victim's body was found two days later after his brother called St. Cloud Police for a welfare check.
