Garland County was mostly unscathed from the storms that hit the state on Easter Sunday, the Garland County Department of Emergency Management said. "We didn't have anything," Bo Robertson, the emergency management director, said. "We had a tree down on Surrey Road. ... That was literally it, which, man, we're so fortunate to have only that."Robertson said he was watching the weather reports, but there was never any evidence of any tornadoes touching down in the county.

Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave., will be hosting a new series of conversations with a Hot Springs National Park ranger, discussing the history of the oldest protected land in the country. Cane West, the education coordinator and the acting interpretation, education and volunteer program manager at HSNP, will give the first of his presentations on Wednesday at noon.

Around 150 wild horses and burros will be available for adoption next weekend at the Garland County Fairgrounds, 4831 Malvern Ave. The Bureau of Land Management is bringing around 100 horses and 50 burros for an adoption event for the second straight year, Hunter Paffrath, the event coordinator, said. "Our friends over there at the Ouachita National Forest had told us there's a lot of horseback riding in that area," he said. "We came out last year and had a great event.
