Cathedral Speakers Advance to Section Meet

Seven Cathedral speakers advanced to Saturday’s Section 5A Speech Meet with their performances in last night’s sub-section meet in Melrose. Molly Piernock and Grace Nordos were the sub-section champions in Duo while Finley Potthoff earned the title in Informative. Kendall Heydman was 2nd and Piper Leaders finished 6th in Humorous. Kayden Mullings came in 3rd in Great Speeches and Joe McGowan was 6th in Creative. All seven will compete in Annandale on Saturday with state meet berths on the line.

Williams Van Kovering with MN-Dot indicates distracted driving remains a serious danger on Minnesota roads, and it's preventable. Waite Park Police are reporting theft from a storage unit on 7th Street South. Alicia Mages from Tri-County Crime Stoppers says a Television was taken. The Benton County Sheriff's Office are reporting fire extinguishers been dumped at Bent in the River Park.

St. Cloud State has put Selke Field up for sale. It is about 16.28 acres and is zoned R-2 Single Family and Two Family Residential/POS Parks and Open Spaces. The appraised value is $290,000. Waite Park Police are reporting a theft from vehicle on the 1500 block of 7th Street South. Alicia Mages from Tri-County Crimestoppers explained the owner found the back window smashed out of the vehicle and a debit card was taken. The St. Cloud Police Department are reporting a burglary on the 900 block of 25th Avenue North. Mages says a purple mountain bike was taken from a garage.

Gas prices are on the rise but where will they peak? St. Cloud State Dean, School of Public Affairs and Economics Professor King Banaian joined me on WJON. He says due to Sauk Arabia announcing that they will extend their voluntary production cuts of 1 million barrels per day through the end of the year. Banaian explains another factor is 8 coups happening in African countries since 2020.
