KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – On the premiere night of The Kingsport Theatre Guild’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” the organization received a $10,000 “Stand for the Arts Award” from Spectrum and Ovation TV. The Kingsport Theatre Guild (KTG) is one of only 10 organizations in the country to receive the award this year. Executive Director of the Kingsport Theatre Guild John Kaywood said the funds will help the guild continue producing high-quality shows.

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Tri-Cities Airport staff hosted an open house meeting as they near the completion of their master plan that will help shape the future of the airport for the next 20 years. The Tri-Cities Airport Master Plan project has been taking place for the last two years. Consulting firm Atkins Realis was hired by The Tri-Cities Airport to help make this master plan a reality.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – On August 10, 2024, Devonne Cole was hit and killed by a train in downtown Johnson City. Now, his family pleads for added safety measures to be placed near railroad tracks. Cole was hit near the West Market Street and Windsor Way intersection by a Norfolk Southern train going roughly 30 miles an hour, according to a Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) report. Dina Cole, Devonne Cole’s mother, is proposing three primary changes.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – The new Elizabethton/Carter County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director, the new EMA Deputy Director and the new Veteran Services Officer were all introduced at Monday’s Carter County Commission meeting. Cathy Umrichen, Elizabethton/Carter County’s New EMA Director, has been serving in emergency response since she was 16 years old in the New Jersey/New York City area.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Carter County Car Club has moved the start of its seasonal cruise-ins from downtown Elizabethton on East Elk Avenue to the parking lot of Elizabethton High School’s (EHS) stadium due to the temporary closure of the Broad Street Bridge. The Broad Street Bridge has been closed since Hurricane Helene due to structural damage sustained from the storm. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) originally said the bridge was slated to be back open in late May.
