GATE CITY, Va. (WJHL) – The Hope House of Scott County invited Mikayla Evans to speak for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Evans hopes that sharing her story can encourage sexual assault and domestic violence survivors to feel more comfortable speaking up and seeking help. In September 2020, Evans fell from the five-story window of Sean Williams’ downtown Johnson City apartment. Williams has since been convicted of several crimes, including three counts of child phonography production.

KYRGYZSTAN (WJHL) — A Greene County family can finally bring their newly adopted daughter to the United States after a long struggle with the adoption process. The Foulks family has spent months trying to bring home a little girl, Nora, who has been in desperate need of surgery. Gary and Christie Foulks said they were feeling very discouraged with the visa process for their adopted daughter- until a Facebook post by Christie got the attention it needed from Northeast Tennessee legislators.

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) – The Bristol, Virginia City Council passed a new real property tax rate Tuesday. The actual rate is lower than last year, however, the new total assessed value of property has increased, causing people to pay more. The previous tax rate was $1.17 per $100 of assessed value. The newly adopted rate is $0.93 per $100 of assessed value.

ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) – Michael Small’s last known whereabouts was on March 24 in Abingdon on Charwood Drive. His daughter, Kerry Small, is asking anyone with information to please contact law enforcement so her father can be found. The Abingdon Police Department, the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, the Abingdon Fire Department, the Virginia Department of Social Services and multiple other agencies are assisting in the search for Michael Small.
