Kenston High School junior Brynn Kahle has devoted significant effort to earning the Girl Scouts’ highest achievement — the Gold Award. This prestigious honor recognizes leadership, service and a lasting commitment to addressing community challenges. Brynn’s Gold Award project entailed the complex coordination of transporting eight retired racing greyhound dogs from Australia to Ohio, where they’re now awaiting adoption at a designated facility in Geauga County.

When then 11-year-old Doug Marsh first took the wheel of a go-kart in Geauga County back in 1979, he had no idea that decades later he’d be inspiring a new generation of young drivers to follow in his tracks. Marsh, of Chardon, is now president of Championship Kart Racing Association, a not-for-profit organization that oversees the operation of Thompson Kart Raceway in Thompson Township.

Hospice of the Western Reserve volunteer Danny Pugliese was recently honored as one of seven individuals by ServeOhio, Ohio’s commission dedicated to service and volunteerism. Since 2019, Pugliese, 76, has used his passion for music to bring comfort to dozens of veterans and hospice patients by performing at Veteran Recognition Ceremonies and hospice events.

Field 44, a new athletic complex in Concord Township, is primed and ready for athletes of all skill levels. The facility at 7757 Auburn Road is a venue for indoor sports training that features state-of-the-art sports technology as well as recreational and sports-themed activities. Despite arriving in Cleveland during biting, sub-zero temperatures, a group of French foreign exchange students recently received a heartwarming welcome from staff and students of Hershey Montessori School. The school consists of two campuses, one in Concord Township and the other in Huntsburg Township. What was meant to be the students’ first day of school was canceled due to freezing weather conditions. However, the unexpected break gave them a chance to settle in and connect with their hosts.

After retiring from a lengthy and successful career at a local company, Jules Sebek was inspired by her past positive experiences with Hospice of the Western Reserve to pursue a volunteer position with the agency. For more than seven years, the Wickliffe woman has served as an end-of-life doula, providing non-medical, holistic support and comfort to patients and their families.
