Akron Mayor Shammas Malik says he agrees with City Council's decision to reject a fact-finder's report regarding contract negotiations with the Fraternal Order of Police. The bottom line, is that their recommendation, which would have raised police pay over the next two years, would be too expensive. “The City deeply values and appreciates the work of our officers and wants them, and all employees, to be appropriately compensated.

Saying they are committed to a "sustainable future", Akron Public Schools officials released a statement today on what may be next for Miller South School For Visual & Performing Arts , and Pfieffer Elementary School. Their original plan was to build a new facility to house both of those schools on the site of the old Kenmore High School, but in a statement released today, they say that plan has changed because of increasing costs.

Although the Akron police bomb squad didn't find any explosives yesterday; they did find a big mess, allegedly left by the 11 year old vandal who scrawled the words "I have bombs" on a white board at the school. That's what prompted yesterday's transfer of students from the school at 1999 East Avenue, to Garfield CLC on Brown Street, where they were sheltered in the auditorium until their parents came to pick them up.

All clear at Innes CLC at 1999 East Avenue In Akron today, after police swept the building on reports of a bomb possibly planted there when somebody broke in an vandalized the building over the weekend. No explosives were found, but the building will remain closed tomorrow, while the damage caused by vandals is cleared up.

Students on the bus in transit to Innes CLC at 1999 East Avenue in Akron this morning were rerouted to Garfield CLC at 1326 Brown Street, and were sheltered in the auditorium there, while their school was being checked out by police after a reported bomb threat. Akron Public School officials say there was a break-in at Innes over the weekend and a threatening note was left behind. Classes for Innes students were cancelled, and parents were asked to come pick their children up from Garfield.
