A Mentor man was found guilty in an August crash that followed a high-speed pursuit in Streetsboro. Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie J. Pittman found Tyler Aiden Wilson, 20, guilty of third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer on May 9, according to court records. Pittman presided in a bench trial after Wilson waived his right to a jury trial.

A Portage County judge on May 8 found a Nelson Township man guilty of raping a 9-day-old baby, sexually assaulting a teenage girl and domestic violence. Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie J. Pittman found Steven M. Ferguson, 27, guilty of first-degree felony rape, second-degree felony sexual battery, third-degree felony gross sexual imposition and three counts of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence contained in a grand jury indictment filed in August.

"All of us have been doing this a long time and as attorneys, we are accustomed to hearing difficult stories and we do so day after day after say," Portage County Prosecutor Connie Lewandowski told Judge Laurie J. Portage cities settle with county over drug task force funding

Three cities have settled a civil complaint with Portage County and Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski over funds belonging to a now defunct drug task force. Ravenna, Kent and Streetsboro and defendants Portage County and Zuchowski agreed to settle and dismiss the case that the cities jointly filed in Portage County Common Pleas Court in November 2023, according to an April filing. The parties involved were members of the Portage County Drug Task Force, which disbanded several years ago.

A Kent man who previously was required to register as a sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting another young girl. A Portage County grand jury indicted Samuel J. Piltz, 30, of Hampton Road, on two counts each of attempted rape and third-degree felony gross sexual imposition. According to the indictment, the alleged offenses occurred in early December, when the girl was 5. The indictment was filed Thursday in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
