An evening fire caused significant damage to a Ravenna home May 30, but no one was hurt. The initial call to the fire at 130 N. Scranton St., near Mechanic Avenue, came in at about 7:30 p.m., said Ravenna Fire Capt. Ryan Hall on May 31. Hall said that because the fire was handled by the previous shift, he had limited information, but the house sustained "pretty severe damage.""I think once we got the call, it was already majority involved," said Hall, adding there were nevertheless no injuries.

A Portage County man has filed a federal lawsuit against the county's sheriff and two sheriff's office employees alleging retaliation over claims the man posted on Facebook. The lawsuit, filed by William Lane in U.S. Sixth District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on May 6, names Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, Robert James and Michael Davis, along with Portage County, as defendants.

Two Kent men were arrested after they allegedly confronted a third man with loaded shotguns at a Kent apartment complex during the evening of May 25. Bryce Allen Boylen and Jeffrey Tyler Dolan, both 19 and with Silver Meadows Boulevard addresses, are charged in Portage County Municipal Court in Kent with first-degree felony aggravated robbery.

A Ravenna Township woman will be going to prison for her role in the non-fatal overdoses of a half dozen people at the Ravenna Eagles Club nearly a year ago. Visiting Judge John Enlow, filling in for Judge Laurie Pittman, sentenced Jamie A. Perry, 40, to four to six years in prison during her sentencing hearing May 27 in Portage County Court of Common Pleas. James Eskridge, Perry's attorney, had requested probation and Portage County Prosecutor Connie Lewandowski requested nine years in prison.

A Sandusky County teen accused of trying to stab an elderly Ravenna Township man to death is awaiting sentencing after pleading to a lesser charge. Alexis Nicole Davis, 19, of Fremont, pleaded guilty to second-degree felony assault during a May 14 pretrial hearing in Portage County Common Pleas Court, according to court records. Court records provide a Fremont address for Davis, but a Portage County sheriff's report lists a Kent address for her.
