But this year the colors are coming early amid a very busy season in the state. As the brilliant colors of leaves are an invitation for visitors to the Mountain State, Chelsea Ruby, the West Virginia Tourism Secretary says new numbers show how important tourism is in all four seasons.

WEST VIRGINIA (WCHS) — A local man who is in long-term recovery is now helping others to leave drugs behind for good. "Since Jan. 8, 2018, I decided not to do drugs anymore," Richard Washington said. "I had to make a conscience decision to let Christ back with me and guide me."Washington spent 30 years battling his drug addiction and was sentenced to prison for it. While he was in prison, he found that reclaiming his spiritual faith helped him leave the life of addiction.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — As fall sports begin, so does the focus on the mental health of student-athletes. From high school to college, these students juggle school work and sports while trying to keep up with good mental health. According to the NCAA, in 2022 there were 530,000 college athletes and nearly eight million high school athletes. Last year, they said about 30% of student-athletes experience mental health challenges.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The widely popular, nationally-syndicated BOB & TOM Show is on the road and broadcast before a live audience at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Friday morning, prefacing an evening comedy show at the same venue. The show has millions of listeners coast to coast, and airs locally on ROCK 105. Program director Chili Walker told Eyewitness News the capital city broadcast has been in the works for years.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A local school district is working to instill good dental habits in children in the face of unfavorable reports on oral health among adults in West Virginia. The West Virginia Oral Health Coalition Report Card for the year is out. It shows that 40% of adults over the age of 45 have lost six or more teeth because of tooth decay or gum disease. The report card grade is an F. The assessment of dental health for the state's children are a different story.
