LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — The Southern Coalfields of West Virginia is now beginning the cleanup process after the area was devastated by weekend floods. This includes Logan County, which saw homes, cars and businesses get ruined by high water. Hershel Salmons, a resident of the Mount Gay Apartments, was helping his neighbors on Monday afternoon dig the mud and debris out of their units after the first floor went underwater Saturday night.

MILTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Two people are in jail after dispatchers said a police chase ended in a crash in Cabell County. Dispatchers said police tried to pull over the driver of a truck in the 2100 block of Kilgore Creek Road in Milton about 10:15 p.m. Monday. Dispatchers said the driver refused to stop and crashed into a car on Dudley Gap Road. Dispatchers said a man and a woman in the truck were arrested. FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. (WCHS) — One person is in the hospital after an accident on I-77 in Jackson County. Jackson County 911 dispatchers said a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer crashed in the northbound lanes of I-77 in Fairplain Tuesday night. Dispatchers said one person was taken to the hospital, but their condition was not available. Firefighters with the Ripley Fire Department said both northbound lanes will be shut down near the 132 exit ramp for an undetermined amount of time.
Students at new Milton Elementary School to get three extra days of winter break

MILTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Students who will attend the new Milton Elementary School will get three extra days of winter break to allow staff enough time to move into the new building. According to an email from Cabell County Schools, the last day for students at Milton Elementary will be Wednesday, December 18, 2024 and they will return on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. School officials said the extra days will give teachers time to move their things and set up their new classrooms.
