    PEORIA (25News Now) - A woman and her five dogs were rescued from their North Peoria home on Thursday night after it caught fire. Peoria Fire crews were called to the 7700 block of Orchard Road just after 7 o’clock for a house fire with entrapment. Dogs rescued from North Peoria house fire(week)The Battalion Chief on the scene tells us they found the woman about 10-15 feet inside the front door and then retrieved the trapped dogs. All six of the victims seemed well on scene.

    PONTIAC (25News Now) - Two men are dead after Pontiac Police were called to a home on S. Oak Street, just a few blocks from the Pontiac Correctional Center and Livingston County Jail. In a release, Pontiac Police say they were called to the home just before 3:30pm on Thursday, where they found a 59-year-old man and a 25-year-old man both shot to death. Police say this is believed to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public. The victims’ identities have not been released.

    PEORIA HEIGHTS (25News Now) - The Village of Peoria Heights has hired a former Peoria fire chief to temporarily lead its department. Tony Ardis tells 25News he’s willing to serve only on an interim basis to replace Dan Decker. The village board decided not to renew Decker’s contract during a rare Saturday session on May 24. Decker had been the Peoria Heights chief for less than two years. Ardis spent more than two decades with the Peoria Fire Department. He retired in 2021.

    PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK/Gray News) - A mother in Illinois has been arrested after her baby was pronounced dead in a yard Monday night. According to Peoria police, officers were called to a residence at about 7 p.m. where they found a 1-month-old infant not breathing and unconscious. The boy, later identified as Grayson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK/Gray News) - A shooting Wednesday in Illinois wounded five people, two of them critically, police said. Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said an adult male and a juvenile male are in critical condition. The other gunshot victims, an adult male and three juvenile males, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. “When we arrived here, obviously there was chaos,” Echevarria said at the scene. A sixth person suffered a laceration as a result of the incident.
