Just AddedLots of filmmakers come to LA with Hollywood dreams. But only one of them opened a fried chicken shop instead. Gol Tong is run by an ex-horror film director from Korea who taught himself how to make fried chicken from a TV show. The result is unlike anything in the city: crispy, saucy twice-fried KFC topped with like diced peppers, golden kiwis, pineapple, tomatoes, blueberries, and green grapes that add bursts of freshness and make the platter look like a patchwork quilt.

This Santa Monica bakery is run by a former professional baking instructor, which might explain why their classic chocolate chip cookie wouldn’t look out of place in a culinary school textbook. It’s flat and thin with a crispy base, but the center stays just a little underdone. We also love that the cookies here are larger than your face and come with rippled edges and big pools of melted chocolate. We’ve regretted a lot of gas station cookies, but not these.

Leopard-spotted pizzas. Tropical cocktails. Swaying under a disco ball in a packed room. It’s not a checklist for your non-existent trip to Ischia; it’s a night at Not No Bar. Sure, you’ll likely have to wait in line, but you didn’t spend all those winter nights recharging on your couch for nothing. Summer road trips are a given. But this year, a summer road trip that ends with Central Coast barbecue on the Central Coast is a must.

We’re convinced this shrimp taco is the best way to spend $3 in this city, especially when $3 doesn’t get you much at all. Mariscos Jalisco assembles hundreds of these miniature symphonies per day: a crisp golden-brown shell plumped with shrimp, doused in a refreshing tomato-cabbage salsa, and topped with a little avocado hat. It’s the perfect balance of hot and cold, fried and fresh, and humble and decadent, all for the price of a kiwi at Erewhon.
Spago is a slice of LA history and still a great restaurant - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

You’re probably familiar with Spago. It’s been open since the ’80s, has sister restaurants in places like Istanbul and Singapore, and often attracts celebrities who get photographed leaving dinner. Spago made Wolfgang Puck the first (and maybe only) chef you and your grandma know by name—even if that’s only because you’ve bought one of his salads at LAX to take with you on a plane.
