BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Judge Daniel Seiden is returning to Binghamton City Court after being censured for contributing to a hostile work environment. Seiden was escorted from City Hall by security on July 23, 2024, as he was coming off the bench from hearing a case and was forced to clear out his office several days later. He was transferred to Cortland City Court under the guise of needing to assist that court because it was understaffed.
Copper thieves drop cable into Susquehanna River

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Some determined, and misguided, copper thieves attempted a brazen theft that has result in a large copper cable being dropped into the Susquehanna River. Authorities discovered last night that a thick braided copper cable that had been suspended above the river just downstream from the confluence in downtown Binghamton is now mostly in the water. That’s because thieves caused the wire to become detached from the utility pole on the southside of the river.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Ross Park Zoo is the Greater Binghamton Chamber Business of the Week. The zoo is committed to preserving wildlife and is home to 50 different species, half of which are in a species survival program. This year, Ross Park Zoo is celebrating its 150th anniversary. In 1875, Erastus and Cornelia Ross donated the land for Ross Park and the zoo which is the 5th oldest in the country.

Dozens of people attended the fundraiser at the Phelps Mansion Museum ballroom as the Republican kicked off his second, and possibly last, campaign for Mayor. Should he win, he would be term-limited from running for a third consecutive term.

TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – With maple sap tapping season drawing to a close, In The Kitchen with CCE has a recommendation for how to use the syrup in a savory dish. Nutritionist Tara Kenyon is preparing a maple roasted sweet potato taco. Served on a soft flour taco, the dish also has feta cheese, chipotle peppers, pickled onions and cilantro. Kenyon says maple syrup has a lower glycemic index than other sweeteners so it won’t raise your blood sugar as high or as quickly.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A colleague of ours who regularly hauls cases of equipment out on commercial production shoots is showing off what can be done with a simple film camera. Brian Taborne, a creative services producer at News 34, is exhibiting a collection of photographs at the Bundy Museum’s Binghamton Photo gallery called Au Naturel. He chose that name because he only uses natural lighting and never poses his subjects.

Restaurant at 99 Court Street offers eclectic global cuisine including homemade pasta, Thai and French dishes. It’s offering a 3 course dinner for $35. Appetizers include seared ahi tuna and chicken satay. Entree options include shrimp scampi and Greek tenderloin tips. And for dessert, creme brulee, bread pudding or the dessert du jour.
