TOWN OF OWEGO, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Fans in Tioga County who say “¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!” will soon be getting their wish. A groundbreaking is planned for the popular fast-food eatery in Owego. It will be located in a former bank building in front of the Hampton Inn on Route 17C east of the village. A town official says the company plans to retrofit the existing structure with a new roof and relocating the electrical panels. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday morning.

TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Broome County residents have the opportunity to receive medical, dental, and veterinary care at no cost this summer thanks to members of the US military. A news conference was held recently at SUNY Broome to announce the Healthy Broome initiative, coming to the community college from August 11 to the 20. The no-cost healthcare is courtesy of the Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training program.

VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – More than a dozen people are lucky to be alive after a car crashed into the Buffet Star restaurant in Vestal over the weekend. The crash occurred Saturday afternoon as a red SUV smashed through a doorway on the west side of the building at a high rate of speed. Several diners were injured as they dove and scrambled to get out of the way of the vehicle, which struck the building with such force to dislodge concrete blocks around the doorway.

The second annual Festival of the Arts is underway on campus, with gallery shows, open studios and performances. The event showcases the work of the six programs that make up the new School of the Arts: art and design, art history, cinema, creative writing, music and theater. The two-day event began Wednesday night with an opening reception.
