From 1975: The Washington Education Association was threatening to hold a statewide teacher’s strike to protest a wave of school levy election failures throughout the state. Spokane School District administrators warned Spokane teachers that shutting down the schools for a day “would be completely unacceptable from our point of view.” The Spokane Education Association had not yet authorized a strike.

From 1975: A lunch customer at the Zip’s Drive-In at Sprague and Fancher noticed something unusual about a car in the parking lot. He saw a woman sitting in the car, apparently slumped over. He walked up to the car to investigate, and saw two people, neither of whom were moving. The customer went into Zip’s and notified the manager. When they went out to investigate, they tried to wake the couple up, without success.

From 1975: Boundary County in Idaho had churned through four prosecuting attorneys in two years, but now it hoped it had found a long-term solution: Randy Day, a 24-year-old University of Idaho law student. Day said he was “wiling to give it a try.”“I have no doubts, none whatever, about my ability to handle the job,” Day said. First, he must graduate from law school. Then he would serve as a legal intern to the current, temporary, county prosecutor. Then he must pass the state bar exam.

From 1975: Demolition work was in full swing for most of the Expo ’74 buildings. The first to go was the Japanese Pavilion, soon to be followed by the pavilions of Iran, Mexico, West Germany, Soviet Union, Taiwan and South Korea. Also scheduled for demolition were the Joy of Living Building and Energy Building. All of these were slated to be gone by June or July. Some of the buildings would be dismantled and then repurposed.
