NORTH POWNAL – The story of Vermont’s only “witch trial” is likely to gain even wider recognition after a segment of “New England Legends,” a program that aired on public TV stations, was recently nominated for an Emmy Award. “I am thrilled and honored,” said Tony Dunne, who produced the work after attending events in 2023 marking the 18th century “trial” in North Pownal, in which the alleged witch was dunked into the Hoosic River as a test.

POWNAL — Vermont State Police have identified the vehicles and operators sought for questioning in connection with a hit-and-run incident Thursday morning in Pownal. Video images of the two vehicles traveling just south of the Massachusetts border had been posted by VSP Thursday afternoon. The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing, police said in a release. They thanked members of the public who provided valuable information that assisted in locating the two vehicles.

BENNINGTON – Libby Harris, who died April 24, is being remembered for her spirited opposition to large solar projects she and others in Bennington feared would impact the scenic Apple Hill area. Harris, 80, had been living near relatives in Virginia since suffering a serious household injury and later suffering dementia. “Libby was my neighbor in the Apple Hill development,” said Lora Block. “She was also an avid member of our Feminist Reading Group. There are many reasons I miss her.

POWNAL — Vermont State Police said Thursday afternoon that they now have video footage showing two vehicles that were in the area of a hit-and-run incident that seriously injured a pedestrian in Pownal. The vehicles are believed to be a Chevrolet Silverado and a Volkswagen sedan, either a Passat or a Jetta, Trooper Jared Lacoste said in a release. Both vehicles were white with unknown license plates.
