BENNINGTON – A Select Board listening session Wednesday quickly evolved into a brainstorming and strategizing session on how to advocate for and help fund restoration work on the iconic Bennington Battle Monument. The topic had been suggested to help launch a new series of Select Board meetings during which community members lead the discussion. One result was a noticeable boost in participation, with about 40 people in attendance at the Bennington Firehouse.

BENNINGTON – Preliminary construction work is underway on the $54 million Benn High redevelopment project, but some critics of the public-private initiative contend that unanswered questions remain. BENNINGTON – The Better Bennington Corporation’s budget proposal received a positive reception Monday from the Select Board, which unanimously approved the organization’s tax revenue request with a 3.5 percent increase. Executive Director Jeanne Mintrone spoke about the group’s fiscal 2026 work plan and the projected budget for the year beginning July 1, detailing downtown promotional and other activities overseen by four standing BBC committees.

BENNINGTON – Adam Carmichael was named by the Mount Anthony Union School District Board to replace outgoing high school Principal Timothy Payne. The board unanimously approved a recommendation to hire Carmichael, a math teacher at the high school, pending finalization of an employment contract. On July 1, Payne, the Mount Anthony Union High School principal for the past seven years, will replace longtime Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union Superintendent Jim Culkeen, who is retiring.
