BENNINGTON — Tom Haley and Jim Sullivan were chosen Monday to lead the Select Board through the coming year — as chair and vice chair respectively. Saying they wanted to avoid controversy in order to move forward in a united manner, a 4-3 majority of the board voted to take the unprecedented step of casting secret paper ballots for the positions. That stirred up some controversy of its own.

BENNINGTON – A new Select Board chairperson is scheduled to be elected Monday to replace Jeannie Jenkins, who did not seek re-election in March. The annual board reorganization is first on the agenda for the 6 p.m. meeting at the Bennington Firehouse. Following results of the March 4 town election, members of the seven-member board include current Vice Chair Ed Woods, Tom Haley, Sarah Perrin, Nancy White and Clark Adams, along with newly elected board members Jackie Matts and Jim Sullivan.
