A 21-YEAR old woman from Rathdowney is to represent Laois in this year’s Miss Ireland Final. Robin Farrell will represent the in the 77th Miss Ireland Final on Saturday 14 June at The Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim, Co Meath. Robin has many hobbies from Taekwondo to Camogie and plays with her local team St. Bridget’s.

SCHOOLS in Laois were recognised for their environmental efforts at the Green-Schools Awards ceremony recently that celebrated the schools’ commitment to sustainability. Under the Green-Schools Programme, schools renew their Green Flag every two years while undertaking a new environmental theme. Laois County Council supports the programme by delivering targeted workshops and resources to assist schools in achieving their goals and maintaining progress across previously completed themes.

FROM bats, moths, birds and squirrels to pearl mussels and meadows, they all came under the spotlight during various activities that took place in Laois throughout National Biodiversity Week. From dusk choruses and bat walks to moth traps and riverside discoveries, Laois celebrated its natural heritage with some fantastic immersive events from 16-25 May. A vibrant programme of events celebrated the county’s wild beauty and ecological diversity.

TO CELEBRATE Criunniú na nÓg, the national day of creativity for children and young people, Laois le Chéile festival will be held in Portlaoise on Saturday 7 June. The all-inclusive, free-to-attend community multicultural, inter-generational festival will be held on the grounds of Laois Music Centre from 1pm to 6pm and presented by Music Generation Laois.
