A woman was found seriously injured lying in the road after being struck by an apparent hit-and-run driver in Hampton Bays early Thursday, Southampton police said. A 911 caller reported the injured woman in Montauk Highway at about 2:45 a.m. near Villa Paul Restaurant, west of Springville Road, police said. The woman to transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was being treated for serious injuries, police said.

Just in time for summer, the first heat wave of the year is here. Thursday will see temperatures in the upper-80s for most of Long Island with high humidity and the chance for afternoon thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. Heat coupled with humidity are expected to make temperatures feel like 95. Humidity levels were nearing 80% in some regions as of 8 a.m.; muggy conditions are expected for the day.

An attorney representing former residents of an Elmont senior co-op said a county lawsuit for housing residents after their building was flooded nearly two years ago may soon reach a settlement. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and county attorneys had sued the management company of the 1888 Foster Meadows co-op and the co-op residents who were shareholders of the building after the county provided emergency shelter for residents in a Sept. 29, 2023, flood.

Nassau County police acted properly when they used a police helicopter to disperse a large crowd at Jones Beach earlier this month, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA had said it would investigate the use of the helicopter to disperse about 500 people gathered at Jones Beach on June 5. The helicopter was captured on video flying at low altitudes over the crowd before circling back while police and state park police worked on the ground to disperse the crowd.

Suffolk County police have identified a New Jersey man as the person killed by a hit-and-run driver on Friday evening in Wyandanch. Hillel Fuld, 29, of Teaneck, New Jersey, was struck by a vehicle while he was walking around 7:30 p.m. on eastbound Wyandanch Avenue, west of Mount Avenue, Suffolk County police said. The driver sped away in an unknown vehicle. Police said on Tuesday that no arrests had been made.
