Brownhelm Historical Association announced its next membership meeting and historical program will be May 7at the Historic Brownhelm School & Museum,1950 North Ridge Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:30 followed by social time at 7 and the historical program at 7:15. The program is on “Lester Allan Pelton and His Water Wheel,” according to a news release.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a Perry Village man who is accused of committing a sex crime. Kevin Kreider is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing at 8 a.m. May 5 in Painesville Municipal Court. Kreider, 60, is charged with a first-degree felony count of rape, court records show. He is accused of committing that crime on or about March 13 in the city of Painesville, court records show. He was arraigned on the charge on April 29 in Painesville Municipal Court.

District Nine of the Ohio Public Works Commission will hold a public meeting at 1 p.m. May 9 at the Lorain County Metro Parks Carlisle Visitors’ Center, 12882 Diagonal Road in LaGrange. The agenda includes appointments to the Natural Resource Assistance Council, as well as approving project scoring methodology, according to a news release. If anyone has questions, contact the Lorain County Engineer’s office at 440-329-5586, the release said.

The Lake County Treasurer’s Office recently announced that second-half property taxes for 2025 are now available for payment. Property owners can make payments anytime between now and the due date of July 16, according to a news release. Payments can be made through the payment portal on the Lake County Treasurer’s website, www.lakecountyohio.gov/treasurer.
