Recently, a reckless driver caused a car crash that killed beloved great-grandmother Maria Ochoa, 88, while she was out on a walk in Garfield Ridge. Her family members and neighbors are demanding that the City make safety improvements to help prevent future traffic violence. According to the initial Chicago Police Department statement on Saturday, May 24, around 5:30 p.m., Ochoa was walking at Archer Avenue at Laramie Street. Here Archer is a four-lane "stroad," which encourages speeding.

This post is sponsored by The Bike Lane. Oh, unintentionally hilarious motorheads at the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board, don't ever change. On second thought, please do change, because your often wrongheaded, car-centric opinion pieces are having a bad influence on decision-makers. In recent months, Streetsblog Chicago had mercilessly poked fun at the editorial board members for their windshield POVs on sustainable transportation issues.

Rainbow seen from the Andersonville farmers market yesterday, you were beautiful. https://t.co/cXcrAKVwNU

This is from Pittsburgh Regional Transit. But if they ran this image on the CTA Blue Line's O'Hare Branch, everyone would interpret it as a longtime Avondale resident and a hipster gentrifier. https://t.co/6ucFXBHZeG https://t.co/ZGa9s54YMa

Psst... CTA: Borrow this idea, but make the law-abiding transit riders a Polish sausage, sweet steak sandwich, Italian beef, jibarito, etc., with the scofflaw being a hotdog with ketchup doing a shot of Malört. https://t.co/m88a9NjEXc @HarebrainedInc @chibbqk1ng @JeppsonsMalort

Tired of smoking, littering, etc, on CTA? Pittsburgh Regional Transit rolled out a courtesy campaign this spring. https://t.co/FCxK5GGHzA CTA did a good one a decade ago, but it might be time for a refresh. https://t.co/kzkmR0erLe @PGHtransit https://t.co/E7iOyja0Hl
