Two Go Local stores in Middlesbrough have been burgled in overnight incidents that are being linked by police. The first incident happened around 1.30am today (April 17) at Go Local on Ayresome Street, where two males in a blue Vauxhall Meriva attended the store and stole a large quantity of cigarettes. A "full review" will be conducted into the circumstances that allowed a convicted terrorist to launch an attack on three North East prison officers, resulting in two of them sustaining "severe stab wounds". Hashem Abedi, who is serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 55 years for his role in the Manchester terror attack, was reported by the Prison Officers' Association to have doused three officers with hot cooking oil before stabbing them.

The Easter weekend is almost upon us - and there's no better way to celebrate Good Friday than a classic chippy tea. Fish and chips are a British staple, and tucking into the takeaway treat on the special Easter holiday is a tradition for people across the UK. With Teesside being home to a beautiful stretch of coastline, it's no surprise that so many of us love a hefty serving of battered cod and a portion of salty homemade chips.

A tragic incident has claimed the lives of a 46-year-old British man and a 17-year-old boy who drowned while on holiday in Australia, reports say. The Britons were caught in a riptide on a popular tourist beach along the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef on Sunday. The BBC reports that the duo were swimming at an unguarded beach in the Queensland town of Seventeen Seventy, named for Captain James Cook's year of landing in Australia. Notedly absent from this location are lifeguard patrols.
