COTTONWOOD – With the postseason now being dedicated to injured senior Jaxxon Davis after he broke a bone in the lower part of a leg during practice Thursday, Cottonwood swept Zion Chapel 7-1 and 3-0 in the best-of-three series Friday in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs. Davis, who was the Bears’ starting third baseman, suffered the injury after getting his foot caught underneath a fence while chasing a fly ball in foul territory.

The Providence Christian girls soccer team clinched a playoff spot with a 5-0 win over Northside Methodist Academy on Thursday night. Reagan Elmore scored three goals and had an assist for the Eagles. Clara Mixson had two goals, while Addie Pemberton had an assist. Abigail Long had 12 saves for the shutout in goal. Houston Academy 10, Highland Home 0Elsie Shirley scored four goals in leading the Lady Raiders.

Enterprise scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally past Dothan for a 9-6 win and capture the Class 7A, Area 3 title on Thursday night. In sweeping the best-of-three series, the Wildcats won the first game on Tuesday in Enterprise, 9-3, but things came much, much tougher as the series shifted to Dothan. “I didn’t think it was going to be easy,” a relieved Enterprise coach Marty Lovrich said.
