ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The Alpharetta City Council delayed a decision to allow a youth sports group to fund and head redesigns at Union Hill Park that would accommodate ice sports. The proposal, discussed at an April 14 meeting, calls for design, construction, management, maintenance and funding through a group seeking a space for their youth athletes. The group is searching for a new home after The Cooler, 10800 Davis Drive, announced it would no longer provide a rink for ice sports.

Having arrived almost an hour earlier, Roswell couple Julie Burroughs and Michael Joseph stood at the head of the line. Expecting stiff competition from fellow botany buffs, they were strategizing a game plan to maximize their haul in a minimum amount of time. “We have a system,” Burroughs said.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Managing millions in taxpayer money is no small task for the Forsyth County Commission, Chairman Alfred John said during his April 8 State of the County address. “We have to make hard decisions on what can and cannot be funded each year, which investments give our community the best return and which areas need to be trimmed,” John said. John delivered the address to about 300 residents, business leaders and others at the Forsyth Conference Center, 3410 Ronald Reagan Blvd.

Representatives of an Atlanta hockey club asked the city to consider the project at recreational center The Cooler. The center, 10800 Davis Drive, will no longer host hockey and other ice-skating sports.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The Johns Creek City Council will review cost estimates for a performing arts center project April 14. The project, which includes the center and two floors of arts classrooms, would come with a $71-million price tag. That cost would include construction, professional services and a contingency. The analysis considers building and supplies needed for the center over the first 10 years of operations.
