The 12-team College Football Playoff format remains for 2025, but expansion is likely. The Group of Five conferences could potentially get two teams in a 16-team playoff, but it's unlikely. The College Football Playoff still will have 12 teams in 2025. Other than that? No one seems to know. College football leaders have been discussing potential formats for the playoff, but there has not yet been a consensus as the 2025 season gets closer. There almost certainly will be expansion.

Is Memphis football a legitimate contender for the College Football Playoff in 2025? At least one metric thinks so. ESPN released its preseason (Football Power Index) FPI forecast for the 2025 season on June 3, and Memphis is listed as the team with the fourth-best chance to make the College Football Playoff out of the Group of Five. The Tigers (6.5%) are behind Boise State (25.2%), Tulane (24.3%) and UNLV (21.3 %).

The AAC announced kickoff times and TV information on May 29 for six Memphis football games for the 2025 season. The rest of the kickoff times will be announced during the season. Memphis will begin the post-Seth Henigan era on Aug. 30 against Chattanooga at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. That game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN+. The Tigers will then play back-to-back road games at Georgia State on Sept. 6 (6 p.m., ESPN+) and at Troy on Sept. 13 (11 a.m., ESPNU).
