It’s the final curtain call for live music at Madame Vic’s, with its restored historic building listed for sale after more than four years of shows and events. Located on the corner of Elysian Fields Avenue and South Robertson Street in an 1887 Second Empire-style Victorian mansion, the ground-floor bar is going for $850,000, while a six-room hotel on the second floor is available for $750,000. The two can be purchased together for just under $1.5 million, according to a November 2024 listing.

The nonprofit that controls the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has purchased a landmark of the city’s musical history — the original site of Cosimo Matassa’s recording studio. The building, at 940 N. Rampart Street in the French Quarter, housed the first incarnation of Matassa’s studio — reportedly the first in the city — where the prototypical New Orleans rock and R&B sound was put to record seven decades ago.

Louisiana’s oldest and largest craft brewery has opened its second location in New Orleans along a riverfront strip that has emerged as the city’s unofficial “brewery row.” Abita Brewing Company opened its New Orleans taproom Friday at 2375 Tchoupitoulas St. in the former home of Urban Roots Garden Center. The 39-year-old brewery’s new location features 35 taps, a seven-barrel on-site brewing operation and a spacious outdoor area that attracted families on its opening weekend.

A new boutique hotel has opened in the 1950s-era motor lodge that until last year housed The Drifter Hotel, the hipster-friendly motel, bar and performance venue known for its clothing-optional pool. The Drifter, which opened in 2017, was sold last year by the group that also operated the New Orleans boutique hotels Columns and Hotel Saint Vincent.
