Louisiana’s oldest and largest craft brewery has opened its second location in New Orleans along a riverfront strip that has emerged as the city’s unofficial “brewery row.” Abita Brewing Company opened its New Orleans taproom Friday at 2375 Tchoupitoulas St. in the former home of Urban Roots Garden Center. The 39-year-old brewery’s new location features 35 taps, a seven-barrel on-site brewing operation and a spacious outdoor area that attracted families on its opening weekend.

A new boutique hotel has opened in the 1950s-era motor lodge that until last year housed The Drifter Hotel, the hipster-friendly motel, bar and performance venue known for its clothing-optional pool. The Drifter, which opened in 2017, was sold last year by the group that also operated the New Orleans boutique hotels Columns and Hotel Saint Vincent.

WAUKEGAN, IL — The man awaiting trial over the 2022 Highland Park parade shooting has reportedly asked the Lake County judge presiding over his case to expand his telephone access. Bobby Crimo is set to stand trial next month on charges including 21 counts of first-degree murder for allegedly killing Katherine Goldstein, Irina McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Jacquelyn Sundheim, Stephen Straus, Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza and Eduardo Uvaldo and wounding dozens of other paradegoers on July 4, 2022.

SKOKIE, IL — Voters in the village will have the chance to decide in April's local elections whether to support the adoption of ranked choice voting — a system whose supporters say empowers voters and increases election fairness but that has so far faced significant legal and logistical hurdles elsewhere in Illinois. The upcoming referendum comes after volunteers gathered over 2,400 signatures to place the measure on the ballot in Skokie, following similar efforts in Evanston and Oak Park.
