A mural that was installed to be a crime deterrent in Cardston, Alta., has been removed after evoking "strong negative emotions from members of the community," according to the town's mayor and council. A now-deleted post on the town's Facebook page featured the mural - a landscape overlooking rolling foothills approaching Chief Mountain and the silhouette of a person on a horse. The City of Lethbridge is seeking community engagement for an update on its Public Art Master Plan, aiming to activate public spaces, inspire connection and support local artists. The Public Art Master Plan was first passed in 2012, but public art has been a part of Lethbridge's identity since the 1980s. The Lethbridge Police Service has charged a 66-year-old man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a child at a public swimming pool, and officers believe there may be additional victims. Police said on Feb. 10, an 11-year-old boy was approached and sexually assaulted by a man in the men's change room at Stan Siwik Family Pool. Quan Phuoc Tran, 66, was arrested the following day and is charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
