After dozens of calls to police and fire over the past several months the City of St. Paul has shut down a homeless encampment under the Lafayette Bridge. The Union Gospel Mission's Sarah Peterka tells WCCO's Jordana Green they've been out there every day offering shelter and meals, but unfortunately those offers often fall on deaf ears. "They had bad experiences with a shelter in the past, or folks are just not ready to want to accept help, Peterka explains.

A message to drivers who attempt to flee when pulled over in Hennepin County and it's become a troubling trend: Do not flee if you've been pulled over by law enforcement. A ruling from the Minnesota Supreme Court this week clarifies what is considered a 'public place' to include the inside of a car and it's stirring some controversy. Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt tells WCCO's Adam and Jordana even so, law enforcement still needs probable cause to conduct a search. "You can't just go eeny, meeny, miny, moe, I'm choosing you and searching your car," says Sheriff Witt. "The other thing is, we need to remember that driving is not a right, it's a privilege.

Melvin Carter, the Mayor of St. Paul, reacting Wednesday to a new Trump Administration order directing federal prosecutors to investigate state and city officials if they refuse to enforce President Trump's immigration policies.
