Four tribal nations that share geography with North Dakota are part of a broader group which will receive millions in federal funding to build solar power on reservations in the Northern Plains and Rocky Mountain regions. The effort will be headed by the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation and the nonprofit Indigenized Energy which is run by Cody Two Bears, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, which was not part of the program.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources in June is set to hear permit applications for the underground carbon dioxide storage facilities that would serve as the final destination for Summit Carbon Solutions' planned multistate pipeline. Summit's Midwest Carbon Express Pipeline would carry 18 million tons of climate-warming CO2 annually from 57 ethanol plants across North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska for permanent storage in western North Dakota.
