A BARNSLEY MP hosted an event in Parliament to bring together a group to campaign to remove presumption of contact from law and put children at the centre of the family courts. The legal principle currently allows known domestic abusive parents to have unsupervised contact with their children and has led to 48 child deaths.

HORSE riders who have been campaigning for safer conditions whilst using Barnsley’s roads have condemned local leaders for failing to address spiralling cases of near-misses with vehicles. Julie Fields - who has owned horses for 30 years - embarked on an awareness campaign after official figures revealed more than 30 accidents have occurred on popular routes used by riders around Shafton, Felkirk, Royston and Grimethorpe in the last five years.

SCAMMERS who are exploiting a rise in QR code usage to steal cash from unsuspecting Barnsley victims have been told their criminality is being treated as a priority by officers. The Chronicle can reveal a huge surge in people being scammed in the town having accessed a QR code to pay for a service. Last year, a total of 35 people fell foul and lost cash to so-called ‘quishing’ - more than treble the ten people who lost out just two years before.

Mike, youngest son of the late Sir Michael Parkinson, is back in Barnsley for a ‘Parky on Parky’ tribute show, ten years on from the last time they shared the town centre venue’s stage together.
