LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada lawmakers are trying to push through a bill that aims to reform public education in the state. Monday was the final day for bills to pass in the 2025 Nevada legislative session. Republicans and Democrats combined two separate education bills, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, D-Clark County, and Republican Governor Joe Lombardo’s bills which were absorbed into one piece of legislation.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The family of a 17-year-old killed last year accepted his diploma on the last day of school for the Clark County School District. Keanu Enright died on Oct. 16 inside a home at the intersection of Bramble Court and Greenhurst Road near Alta Drive and Rainbow Boulevard. “The last sent months have basically been hell. It’s a struggle every single day. To have the support system is great,” Thomas Enright, III, said.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Nevada lawmakers heard the governor’s education reform bill on Thursday as he seeks to expand charter schools and hold schools more accountable for student achievement. Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo introduced the Nevada Accountability in Education Act before the Democratic-controlled Assembly Ways and Means Committee. “The gap between our highest and lowest performing schools is wider than ever. That’s not simply a school issue, it’s a system-level issue,” Lombardo said.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County prosecutors have charged a middle school campus security monitor with unlawful contact with a child. Hector Asaf Salazar appeared in Las Vegas Justice Court on Wednesday. According to court documents, Salazar worked at Silvestri Junior High School. Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said he touched young girls and made them feel uncomfortable in March. The three victims were reportedly 13, 12, and 11 years old.
