ITHACA, N.Y. — Former Village of Groton deputy mayor and trustee Jamie Perkins has announced his bid for the Democratic nomination to represent District 8 on the Tompkins County Legislature, which includes the Town of Lansing. Republican Legislator Randy Brown, who currently represents District 8, announced his campaign for reelection in January. Brown, who was first elected in 2021 told The Ithaca Voice earlier this year that “win or lose,” this would be his last reelection campaign.

ITHACA, N.Y. — A new sports bar and lounge, outfitted with 16 televisions ranging from 55 to 100 inches, is set to open on the Ithaca Commons in the coming weeks. The new bar, Bookies, is located in the space formerly home to The Range, a beloved Western-themed bar and venue that closed unexpectedly in August 2024 amid insurmountable financial troubles.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Thirteen people arrested last month for disrupting a panel on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at Cornell University were arraigned on disorderly conduct charges Wednesday in Ithaca City Court. City prosecutors dismissed charges for two elderly protesters and offered attractive plea deals to the remaining 11. Six defendants, mostly Cornell students, accepted deals and five non-student defendants declined. They will return at later dates for further proceedings.

But museum leadership says they still need $2.2 million to guarantee the museum’s future beyond that point.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell University graduate student and pro-Palestine activist Momodou Taal said Monday he decided to self-deport and leave the U.S. after the Trump administration initiated deportation proceedings against him. Taal was also one of three co-plaintiffs in a now-dismissed federal lawsuit that aimed to block two of the president’s executive orders.
