A floral shop in Custer turns to a new chapter after 38 years

CUSTER, S.D. (KOTA) - A new kind of shop blossomed in April, and it’s not something you would typically see. Petals & Pages is a flower shop and bookstore in Custer. Originally called Jenny’s Floral, the new owner is writing her own chapter. “I purchased Jenny’s Floral, which had been in our community for over 35 years. So, I owned that for three years and it just kind of came about to start expanding and add to the business,” Carrie Moore, owner of Petals & Pages said.

The color is giving recognition to Military Kid’s Day and Month of the Military Child. Friday, Mayor Jason Salamun signed a proclamation at Ellsworth Air Force Base recognizing Friday as “Purple Up! For Military Kids’ Day and Month of the Military Child.”The proclamation encourages people to wear purple in support of the hardships military children go through.

Piper describes herself as easygoing, affectionate, and just a chill lady. She doesn’t require much exercise, just a walk to keep her joints happy. (KOTA) - Malissa’s Frybread is a food truck that sells Native American dishes such as fry bread, Indian tacos, wojapi, and popovers. “That’s what I love about making Native American food, a lot of people don’t know,” Malissa Walters, the owner of Malissa’s Frybread, said. Walters’ journey started during COVID-19 when she lost her job. “I needed a way to make money, and a lot of restaurants and things were closed, so I would sell frybread and stuff out of my house,” Walters said.
