While serving as Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine, Robert Prevost, who was revealed to the world on Thursday as Pope Leo XIV, visited Fethard in Co Tipperary for a special commemoration of his order. He also visited Cork in 2007, as well as Limerick.

‘It’s like a living eulogy’ - that’s how one listener described the reaction on RTE’s textline to Joe Duffy’s RTE retirement announcement on Thursday. Loyal listeners almost mourned Joe’s departure from RTE which will take effect on June 27 when he will sign off from Liveline for the last time.

This is in no way an attack on @joeliveline and more a critique of RTE salaries to 'top talent' - The Irish taxpayer is paying a €725m bailout to RTE despite all its financial failings, the 2023 fallout and no one really being held accountable. https://t.co/QKx4Wd2hAH

"Rural TDs are almost sneered for saying people should be allowed burn turf or drive diesel cars without being vilified. But that depiction is just plainly unfair." https://t.co/6sOcAyUd59

This is a powerful piece of writing from Joe Drennan's best friend @elliemccarthy__ It is raw, honest and poignant; a real emotional gut punch. Joe certainly lives on when words like these are inspired by him and his spirit.

OPINION: For a long time, I wish I died with Joe but he taught me one of life's great lessons https://t.co/UP0AtFWFwV
